Synopsis

A condensed, board-book version of the P. D. Eastman canine classic Big Dog . . . Little Dog, staring Fred and Ted—mutts who are opposite in every way, but best friends nevertheless.

Children's Literature

Originally issued as a picture book, this smaller board book version also eliminates some of the original text. Fred and Ted are two friends—Fred is big and Ted is little, so now the stage is set. They set out to undertake a variety of tasks that provide comparisons or present opposites. One paints the house red, the other green—one drives fast, the other slow. They finally head off for a mountain vacation and go to a hotel. As kids will see from the pictures, they are assigned the wrong rooms. The big dog gets a small bed and vice versa. With the help of a friendly little bird, they resolve the situation and finally get some much needed sleep. The message at the end while a good one, may go over the heads of the board book readers.
