Synopsis
Birds introduces young readers to the essential features of their fine feathered friends. They'll look in detail at how birds fly, feed, communicate, reproduce, and raise their young.
Children's Literature
Photographs of birds and bird features are nicely organized and accompanied by descriptive captions in this book. Birds, their habits, and some defining features are described simply enough to be understood by a young reader, while still using enough detail to hold attention and encourage learning. Readers will learn about many different aspects of birds. They will be introduced to some better known features, such as flight and egg development, and to some more unique features, such as mating dances and talons. Interesting bird habits, such as satin bowerbirds collecting mostly blue nest building materials, are also dispersed throughout. This is a great book to have as a resource in an elementary school classroom or library and an excellent book for teaching young readers that reading and books can be both interesting and fun.
