Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot

Each tab lets young readers turn to a page with their favorite scene, and all of the scenes deal with birthday parties. It is birthday time, and the young boy is having a great time at his party. There are lots of presents, including a truck, a robot and who knows how many more interesting items in the boxes that he has yet to open. Parties usually have games and wonderful food like pizza, ice cream and cupcakes. Nowadays, parties sometimes have themes, and families may rent things like a bounce castle for kids to play in. The tabbed scenes show a variety of parties, including one where everyone is in costume. However, most have traditional settings with a cake, candles, and something to drink. The items are reprised on the closing spread in the "Look and Say" book. The illustrations are a bit different in that models have been created for each scene and then photographed. As the back cover says "Young children will love spotting and naming all the familiar objects." Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
