Children's Literature - Sally J. K. Davies

"Mamba" means big snake in Zulu where the black mamba snake lives. It is one of the most deadly animals on the planet. The bad news is that, for a short distance, they can move faster than a human can run. The good news for North American readers is that the Black Mamba snake is found in south central and eastern Africa. The elapidae family of snakes is divided into eleven snake families. Eleapids have a pair of nonmoving fangs in their upper jaw. The eleapidae classification includes the cobra family. Another group is the black mamba family. This book discusses the different sizes, colors, habitats, homes, senses, defenses, diets, and the reproduction of the black mambos. Exciting photographs enhance the written information, and the text is set in a large easy to read typeface. The back matter contains a glossary, web site information, and an index. This book is part of Abdo Publisher's "Checkerboard Animal Library: Snakes Set II" series, which includes the titles Coral Snakes, Water Moccasins, Common Adders, Pit Vipers, and Yellow-Bellied Sea Snakes.
