Overview
Popular children's author Anne Kitch is back with a new book for preschool and early elementary aged children. Ten rhyming poems--each based on a Psalm--teach children to recognize the presence of God in all the things they do during a day. In the midst of building friendships and thanking God for all our gifts, even while walking, singing, resting, and working,
God is always with us, guiding us. Bless This Way helps children explore that idea in concrete terms they can understand, using lively and energetic art that will delight adults and children alike.
A collection of prayer-poems for various daily activities, based on excerpts from Psalms in the Bible.
Synopsis
From chasing butterflies to singing on the playground, from picking up toys to playing with friends, a child's day is filled with opportunities to connect with God. This collection of rhyming prayers, based on psalms, is a lovely way for young children - and their families - to weave prayer into all the moments of their lives.
Carlee Hallman - Children's Literature
Translating verses from Psalms into catchy rhymes for young children is a labor of love. In ten pages this author, mother, and Episcopal priest, expresses themes of praise, friendship, thanks, singing, sadness, and a sense of quiet time. The rhymes and pictures illustrate the feelings of children in their lives of play. Citing The Psalter in the Book of Common Prayer of 1979 by the Church Hymnal Corporation as the source of the verses, accounts for the different numbering of two of the verses by one number, from the verse number in the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible. When the correct Bible verse is discovered, the theme is well carried out. The illustrations by an artist from Cricket magazine show among others: rollicking children dancing in the sprinkler with the dog; a little boy with his fist to his eye on his father's lap, the very essence of sorrow; and an exuberant boy, on top of a rock, with arms outstretched, portrays the idea of God as our rock. Young children and parents will delight in the worshipful spirit of this creative translation of verses from the Psalms. 2003, A Continuum Imprint/Morehouse Publishing, Ages 3 to 7.
