Synopsis

Blueberry Mouse is convinced that a blueberry pie is the best place to live, especially when she runs out of berries and begins to nibble the floor and walls.

School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2-Blueberry Mouse is totally blue, with blueberry whiskers and long eyelashes, and dazzling in her red dress with big white polka dots. Her house is a blueberry pie, and she loves it. The problem is that she eats her house away piece by piece. First she eats her table and dishes, then her blanket and sheet. "I can do without them./I can turn up the heat." But when she begins to nibble the walls, the end is in sight. However, she has a delicious solution: "-I will make/A much, much better house/In a blueberry cake." This story in rhyme becomes a feast for the eyes from the crust ceiling with the fruit popping out of the roof to the detailed latticework pie-shell floor, right in the center of a blueberry garden. Children will be attracted to the rich colors and larger-than-life characters, much like those in David Kirk's "Miss Spider" books (Scholastic). Independent readers will love poring over the pages.-Wanda Meyers-Hines, Ridgecrest Elementary School, Huntsville, AL Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
