Overview

The widespread inability of intermediate paddlers to balance and paddle with their boat on edge motivated expert paddler Paul Dutky to write The Bombproof Roll and Beyond. Some techniques Dutky presents are simple, some technically difficult, and many only work in special circumstances--but all are worth knowing.

The Bombproof Roll and Beyond is an introduction to edge control and balance for paddlers at the beginner through advanced levels. The first chapters of the book deal with equipment, preliminary skills such as how to get out of a flipped kayak, balance, and basic bracing. Most of this book is dedicated to the Eskimo roll, because the path leading toward mastery of the roll introduces the aspiring paddler to almost all the fundamentals needed for advanced whitewater maneuvers. A reliable roll also gives paddlers the confidence to experiment with new techniques. An aggressive, skill-hungry attitude will open paddlers' eyes to more play opportunities on the river, and the enjoyment of whitewater will increase tremendously.

With skills learned from The Bombproof Roll and Beyond, paddlers can master the techniques required to surf, to playboat and to run even the most challenging whitewater safely and with confidence.

Synopsis

Wonderfully written text and detailed diagrams take paddlers through the basics of the roll, and into advanced rolls and surfing. A must for the kayaker who lives to surf.
