There are 134 texts (poems, prayers, etc.) in all, grouped by images and patterns of association: Borrowed Light, Hidden Water, Wind and Flame, Melody Alone, A Spendthrift Lover, A Single Unmatched Stone, Fragmentary Prayers, and Disturbance of the Solid Ground. Endnotes and indices according to meter, theme and image, scripture, and first lines will aid clergy, church musicians, liturgists, and composers. An afterword provides further material for the creative process by exploring the literary and theological understandings that shape the texts.

About the Author, Thomas H. Troeger

Thomas H. Troeger, an ordained minister, was born in Suffern, New York. He is a graduate of Yale University and of the Colgate Rochester Divinity School, where he taught before taking up his present position as the Peck Professor of Preaching and Communications at the Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. He has been President of the Academy of Homelitics. He has published and lectured widely in the fields of homelitics, liturgics, and hymnody, and, with composer Carol Doran, authored two contemproary humnbooks, New Hymns for the Lectionary and New Hymns for the Life of the Church (Oxford)
