Overview

Boston not only pays homage to this historic city, it brings it to life. Packed with more than 175 fabulous, full-color photos, it's a visual treat that's also loaded with tons of interesting, little-known details, including an engaging sidebar on why Bostonians talk the way they do. Brimming with an extended introduction and detailed captions, Boston tells readers about such fascinating trivia as the fact that the first Pope to step foot on U.S. soil visited Boston-sort of!-and that the Old North Church was the site of one of the world's first manned glider flights.

Whether you're a tourist planning a trip to Boston or a native looking for unusual, delightful facts about this city, you'll appreciate the book's spectacular photography, attractive map, helpful suggestions on where to go for more information, index, and suggested readings.

Editorials

Boston Magazine

. . . stuffed with words: information about local history, culture, parks, educational institutions, the economy, and even the distinctive local dialect.

ForeWord Magazine

The introduction is the only part of the book written like an actual book. The rest of the chapters are photos with captions. But boy, those captions-written and thoroughly researched by Boston Magazine senior editor Jon Marcus, a native Bostonian-are packed with information. This book is more of a 'pretty' travel guide than an actual here's-where-to-shop and eat-chowder-here kind of a travel guide, but it would look splendid on the bedside table in a room at the Copley Plaza Hotel . . . . But buy extra. These won't stay on the bedside tables very long.
