For long-suffering fans of the Philadelphia Eagles, the 2002 signing of Villanova football star Brian Westbrook seemed unlikely to change things. The Eagles had not reached the Super Bowl since 1981; season after season ended in crushing disappointment. But Brian and had other plans. Even before he became a starter, the compact but sturdy running back was faking out defenses, breaking tackles, and helping his team pull victory from the jaws of defeat.
