Synopsis

The eleven papers of this volume were originally presented at a workshop held in September 2001 by the International Seminar on the History of the Atlantic World at Harvard U. in Cambridge, Mass. The contributors are senior scholars (including two who are emeriti) who teach history in the US and the UK. Rather than specific case studies, the essays address broad subjects to provide a thought- provoking overview of many issues. The topics include migration, economy, religion, class, gender, and race.
