Overview
British Writers, published in seven volumes between 1979 and 1984, treated the lives and works of significant poets, novelists, playwrights, essayists and autobiographers from the Anglo-Saxon era to the present. In the following years, supplements appeared adding authors who were not considered in the mother work for various reasons. The volume here begins a different series of supplements, which reconsiders those who were in the original. Critics cast new eyes on 20 writers ranging from Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlowe to contemporaries such as Seamus Heaney and Harold Pinter. The articles provide extensive primary and secondary bibliographies. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)Book Details
