Gr 6-9-This readable biography helps youngsters understand how Lee's legendary persona developed, and puts what they may already know about him into a larger context. Koopmans shows that his subject was a focused individual who set and achieved big goals, such as to become, in his words, the "highest paid Oriental superstar in the United States." The book is illustrated with numerous stock black-and-white photos and includes boxed quotes from and about the celebrity. It is well researched; footnotes document all the quotations. The annotations for the list of works consulted include the special features of the books, Web sites, and videos.
