Gr 8 UpA first-rate, scholarly (but quite readable) presentation of the life of George Parker, who in his early adult years renamed himself "Butch Cassidy," the moniker by which he was thereafter knownor was he? In his later years, did "Butch"to avoid the law and start a new lifebecome "William T. Phillips?" What makes "Cassidy" such an interesting outlaw? Well, his Mormon origin in Utah; his career as a major bandit in the U.S.; his "work" in Argentina and Bolivia; his disappearance; and his having been the subject for a movie, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The research paper format of this book may daunt some readers, but Netzley's writing is clear; black-and-white photos, reproductions, and maps reinforce the text. All in all, a mighty good read.George Gleason, Department of English, Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield
