Children's Literature -
Containing everything from how to dress to picking a camp site to camper safety, Adam Klein's Camping contains all a young person would need to know for their first camping trip. Each aspect of camping is given its own two page spread, with information that covers the basics but does not overwhelm with detail. For example, the spread on clothing talks about dressing in layers; discussing the specific material and purpose for the layer: polyester or polypropylene in a first layer to remove moisture from the skin and to keep it dry; wool or fleece as a second layer to keep warm; an outer layer of material to keep away wind, rain, and snow. Related photos are contained in each spread, such as children roasting hotdogs in the spread about camp cooking. An index and a glossary are included covering some camping related words: purify, dehydration, down (the sleeping bag stuffing material). It should also be noted that the book contains a spread about the importance of leaving as little impact on the environment as possible during your camping trip. Part of the "Great Outdoors" series, Camping is useful for any nature, wilderness, Physical Education class, or scouting club, as well as for any children who have an interest in sleeping in the great outdoors themselves.
