Overview

This book summarizes and discusses recent research on the nature and regulation of capacitative calcium entry in cells. Capacitative calcium entry is a relatively newly discovered process whereby release of calcium from intracellular organelles secondarily signals to the plasma membrane opening plasma membrane calcium channels. Because this is a relatively new topic, there are as yet no volumes devoted to this phenomenon. However, basic scientists as well as drug companies are beginning to take an interest in capacitative calcium entry as a potential target of therapeutic intervention.
