Overview

In 1934 Phil Schwind, a young man smarting from the sting of the Depression, gave up on city life. He turned, as have many in times of struggle, to the sea, and settled at Cape Cod, determined to make his living from the ocean. He was inexperienced but persistent and in time became a scalloper, clam digger, eeler, boatbuilder, fisherman, lobster-man, and charterboat skipper--par excellence.

More than just another sea story, this book is both a chronicle of one man's ability to make his way in the world, and a record of the times in which he lived.
