Children's Literature

"Yo Ho Ho! Bag of Bones Island Here We Go!" A small boy named Flinn loves dinosaurs. When he learns that his teacher is going to take the class on a field trip to the museum to see dinosaur bones, Flinn is ecstatic. After arriving at the museum, his class is told about a robbery that happened just the night before, and about the dinosaur named Giganotosaurus who is more ferocious than Tyrannosaurus rex! The story takes Pearl, Violet, Tom, and Flinn on a journey to catch the thieves. On their quest, they fall into the cabin of the pirate Gordon Gurgleguts who they learn is the thief. After the treasure is stolen from him, the children decide to help find the treasure and return it to the museum. They set off to the island of Bag of Bones to find the treasure, but after arriving, they run into danger. The island is filled with pirate dinosaurs. Of course they meet the fierce Tyrannosaurus rex and his cousin Giganotosaurus. Now what? Will they get back with the treasure to the museum? Will anyone believe them? This is a great book for small boys. The vocabulary is colorful to say the least. Words like ferocious, peculiar, dastardly dunderheads, and nasty noodle-brained nincompoops add much to the story. After finishing the book, the reader is treated to a game board on the inside back cover with directions for planning Snakes and Ladders. Of course the first to reach the pirates treasure is the winner. Great book! Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
