Synopsis

Cardiovascular Risk Management provides a comprehensive, practical, easy-reference guide to encourage appropriate management of cardiovascular disease and implementation of the many guidelines and risk assessment methods available for this purpose.

This brand new book enables doctors to prioritise treatment using risk-scoring systems and holistic recommendations for reducing cardiovascular risk, providing an overview of why it is important to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease, how to achieve this and the key cardiovascular guidelines available. It includes core guideline recommendations and areas of discrepancy between guidelines, the different risk calculators, treatment recommendations and emerging risk factors and therapies, as well as treatment plans for individuals with diabetes who are at high risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

This is an ideal text for general practitioners, junior doctors, medical students and nurses.

Reviewer:Vincent F Carr, DO, MSA, FACC, FACP(Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences)
Description:This deceptively small book discusses the global risk for cardiovascular disease and the guidelines that different medical associations worldwide have developed to address this risk. Despite the size, this is an extraordinarily dynamic book.
Purpose:The purpose is to address the total risk assessment and management on a worldwide scale and give the entire team of physicians, nurses, and dieticians the tools to address cardiovascular risk with patients. The authors and contributors have provided an extraordinarily complete guide on the worldwide risk and comparison of the different guidelines from throughout the world to facilitate discussions with diverse patient populations.
Audience:This book is for everyone who cares for patients with cardiovascular disease. It does a superb job of comparing the various guidelines in light of the disease burden for any particular population.
Features:The best part is the extremely easy to understand graphic display of the differences among populations and guidelines. Tables and figures are intuitive, and the references at the end of each chapter are current and pertinent for making therapeutic decisions.
Assessment:This is an extremely valuable book for practicing physicians and researchers of cardiovascular disease. I highly recommend it for every medical library.
