Children's Literature

This is an excellent resource for educating children on what kinds of horses there are or what is required to take care of a horse. One can take a cursory look through the book and get hooked on the interesting facts about horses and the cheerful photographs depicting the different types of horses. A brief history of horses as well as a horse's life cycle is described. This book will be helpful for parents who want to explain the ramifications of purchasing a horse. It helps children understand some of the things they need to think about when asking for a horse. For example, the cost of a horse, how much time the horse will need, and how a horse will affect the family. It explains that horses must be groomed, fed good food, exercised, and taken regularly to the veterinarian. This book contains many bolded words that are defined in the back. There is even a quiz at the end to see how much the reader learned about horses. Educators and parents alike will find this book an excellent resource for interesting and useful information about horses. Caring for your Horse is part of the "Caring for your Pet" series. 2004, Weigl Publishers Incorporated, Ages 7 to 10.
