This book is a collection of case studies on various issues encountered with culturally diverse clients. Its purpose is ""to present case studies that will assist faculty members and students in the continuing quest for offering nursing services that are sought out and preferred by the public."" It targets nursing students and inexperienced nurses. Based on the data provided, the editor and the contributors would be considered credible authorities on the subject of cultural diversity. The book consists of two parts. The two introductory chapters in Part One address the need for the case study approach in reaching essential competencies expected of a baccalaureate degree-prepared nurse to function in community settings with diverse clients in culturally-competent and cost-effective manners. Part Two, in its 15 main chapters, presents case studies for analysis and discussion. The situations revolve around various themes and contemporary healthcare issues that relate to inner city, African American, Latino, urban, child, teen, elderly, homeless, immigrant, and intergenerational family populations. Issues regarding the challenges of communication, trust building, home care, compliance, problem-focused care, and client empowerment are also discussed. The final chapter covers caring for South Africans. All chapters in Part Two follow the same format objectives, case presentation, questions, analysis and discussion, and annotated bibliography. Black-and-white art throughout breaks the monotony of reading. The size of this book promotes reading anywhere. Some case studies are not as well analyzed and discussed as are others. This book is current and would be useful in any community-based nursingcourse.
