Gr 5-8-- Two titles that offer historical information along with models and other period projects. Romans provides directions for modeling a villa, making a mosaic, and creating a traditional costume. Castles includes instruction for two basically different castle designs, a tapestry, and a trebuchet, which is a stone-hurling weapon. Frequently the details are sketchy, but the photographs should enable youngsters to produce a similarly acceptable product and use their own imaginative enhancements as well. In addition, the finished products appear to been have made by someone the age of the intended audience. The usual safety precautions are noted and a few places to visit (mainly in New York) are suggested.
