Synopsis

What do people celebrate in different parts of the world? A winning soccer game? Holidays or birthdays?

Children's Literature

Happy, smiling faces appear on almost every page of this book, which is part of the "Small World" series. The photographs from various sources show the reader how occasions large and small are celebrated around the world. The back of the book offers suggestions for adults on involving children in discussions and plans for upcoming events. The text contained in the body of the book is short and simple, but there are also two pages in the back containing additional information about each picture. One photo shows kids in Alaska smiling in the snow while another shows people in India with colored powder on their heads at the Holi festival celebrating the end of winter. One little girl in Oregon smiles after winning a blue ribbon in a local parade while three friends in Nebraska celebrate just being together. The message, that the little moments in life as well as the momentous, should be celebrated, is lovely and worth accenting for children.
