Overview

He's hot. He's cool. He's happening. And he's very, very red. He's Charlie the RedCat, the hep cat creation of New Orleans artist Jim Tweedy, and he's taking the nation by storm. First painted by Tweedy in 1992 as tongue-in-cheek response to fellow Louisiana artist George Rodrigue's famous Blue Dog, Charlie has since taken on a life of his own. He's appeared on posters, prints, and in original paintings as fast as Tweedy can produce them, in scenarios only an immortal could hope to cover in one lifetime: bringing the olive branch to Noah's Ark, sitting for Picasso, atop Mt. Rushmore, in outer space.... And always, Charlie sports the same profound, sublimely deadpan expression that makes visitors to the Richard Russell Gallery in New Orleans (Charlie's official home) laugh out loud.
