One in the "Understanding Issues" series, this book attempts to define child abuse, discusses its extent in this country and the efforts to educate the public to recognize and prevent it. Aimed at the upper elementary and middle school student, the tone of the book is one of reporting the facts. The accompanying photos seem chilling at times and one wonders about their purpose considering the intended age group. Including a discussion on where to go for help if one is experiencing child abuse seems sorely lacking, however there are resources included at the end of the book if the teacher chooses to point them out.
