Overview
Based on research conducted at the geography departments of the Universities of Washington and Honk Kong, this study seeks to explain the unique patterns of Chinese (under)urbanization and link them to patterns observed in other nominally socialist countries. It examines the impact of elements of the economic system, particularly "state-biased" development, the terms of trade between agriculture and industry, and irregular patterns of investment in different sectors and activities.
