Synopsis

The gift of a dog one Christmas enriches the life of a boy and inspires a later gift from him to his own son.

Children's Literature

The story of a boy and his life with a Collie is retold in rhyme. The Collie was a present for the boy's fifth Christmas and from then on they were inseparable. The pictures depict an earlier era and, in most cases, they are pedestrian renditions of what the verse is telling. The story moves forward to the fifth Christmas of the protagonist's own son who will also be getting a Collie for Christmas.
