School Library Journal

Gr 2-4-Three acceptable series entries. In each volume, 10 two-page chapters include a page of text opposite a full-page photograph. For the most part, the illustrations are colorful and inviting. The type is large, and unfamiliar words are bolded and defined in glossaries. A lot of information is packed into the brief narratives. Kaplan explains the histories and traditions of the holidays and offers tips on how to celebrate them. Although somewhat dry, the writing is clear. Libraries already owning parallel volumes in the "Holiday Celebrations" series (Rourke) should consider these new titles for purchase where demand is heavy.-Anne Chapman Callaghan, Racine Public Library, WI Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
