High contrast images are supposed to be good for babies. The die cut board book is in the shape of a circle and there is a series of decreasingly smaller holes on each page, with the last page revealing a Mylar mirror. Some of the patterns have an almost dizzying impact as you look at them. Other pages have a variety of patterns such as polka dots on a yellow page, and alternating black and yellow pentagons surrounding black and yellow circles. This book, which is a companion to Star, does have a few realistic imagesa yellow cat and fish set on black backgrounds. There are plenty of discreet images and as noted a very high quality Mylar mirror for babies to see a reflection of themselves. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
