Citizenship Now (A Longman Topics Reader)

The editors (from the College of Alameda and Stanford U.) intend this collection of thirty recent essays to serve as a text in a college writing class. The essays address questions of citizenship in the United States, focusing on issues of diversity, education, civil liberties, the media, and civic responsibility. Among the authors represented are actress Barbara Streisand, media activist David Barsamian, former ACLU president Nadine Strossen, cultural theorist bell hooks, and Harper's Magazine publisher Lewis Lapham.
