Synopsis
Durin the Civil War years (1861-1865) more than 311,000 Ohioans would answer their country's call for volunteers. Of this number, 35,475 would not survive the war.Stricken with grief, every Ohio town who had lost a son felt the need to memorialize their loss. Like all towns, the idea of erecting a statue, monument or memorial to honor their fallen soldier was agreed upon.
Between 1863 and 2000, more than 270 monuments were built to honor Ohio's Civil War dead. "Civil War Monuments of Ohio" tells us their story and answers the following: Where, why and how many monuments are there? Who build the monuments? What were the different monument types...materials used...and cost? Strange, different and unique monuments? Where is the EXACT LOCATION of every monument?
