Overview

Gorgeous archival photographs combine with original brochures, time tables and menus to illustrate the great story of the streamlined trains that reigned supreme from the 1930s through the 1950s. Union Pacifics City of Salina, Santa Fes Chiefs and Rock Islands Rockets are among the many streamliners featured. Filled with everything pertaining to streamlined trains including their development, rolling stock, motive power, designs, operations, and appointments. Fabulous!

Editorials

Booknews

The authors are rail professionals: Schafer in publishing, Welsh in public policy. They compellingly report the streamline era and America's lost potential for fast rail transportation (the streamliners were derailed by trucks, cars, and money/vote-sucking politicians and bureaucrats). Solid, fluid history with hundreds of color and b&w photos of the great trains (the color photos are period, and thus appear somewhat washed out). Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
