Overview

McCarthy (formerly: art history, University College Dublin, Ireland), who has written two books on the Gothic Revival, has collected seven short essays on this fanciful style in this volume. Containing eight color plates (of watercolors of sites viewed while on the Grand Tour) and many b&w images, the essays describe Gothic Revival and Classical Revival projects, particularly those built in Ireland, in the 18th century. Two essays are on Piranesi and his influence on architecture. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation Β©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
