Children's Literature -
Clifford, the big red dog, has been popular for years. In this story he sees boys and girls with bats and balls. They arrive at a park and a baseball game ensues. Clifford wants to be part of it, but what can he use as a bat. He uproots a tree, but that will not work because it has branches. He tries a street lamp pole but that has wires. What about a metal pipe, but the workers on the pipeline are not at all happy about that. He watches the game and because he is so sad his tears cause some problems. Finally a solution is found and everyone has fun including our big friend Clifford. The back inside cover explains a little more about the various reading levels and offers suggestions for successful reading experiences. Part of the "Scholastic Reader" series this is a Level 1 book with a Lexile of 190L and a word count of 193. It is also listed as a Guided Reading Level G book. Reviewer: Marilyn CourtotBook Details
