Synopsis

Introducing the art and science of clinical transcription, this text covers the phonetics of American English, provides skills teaching in clinical transcription using four hours of audio examples, and discusses clinically relevant topics. The text reviews phonetic transcription, presents phonetic analyses of infant vocalizations, and presents information on transcription reliability from a clinical perspective. A Web site allows students to produce all of the phonetic symbols and diacritics in the book. This third edition features a new appendix on the origins and phonetic principles of dialects.
