Children's Literature

"Clouds of many shapes and sizes drift and dance across the sky" as a mother and child walk the banks of a lake, observing them through their multiplicity of changes. Sparse prose poems share double-spread pages with luminous paintings, inviting us to fill in our own impressions. This is a book to submerge in, to remember, to dream about, to float around and also to learn from, as the last pages, written by science teacher Candace Christiansen, give us important facts and figures about clouds. Artist-author Locker has produced a beautiful and useful book for anyone curious about those collections of floating water droplets so constantly above us. 2000, Silver Whistle/Harcourt, . Ages All. School Library Journal

PreS-Gr 2-This beautifully designed book celebrates clouds as they appear during the different hours of the day and seasons of the year. Each two-page spread features a few lines of prose on the verso and an illustration encompassing most of the recto. The oil paintings are done in subdued and relaxing colors. Many of them show a small child walking with an adult on a path. The book does not have a lot of action, but would be perfect for quiet and relaxed sharing between adult and child. Factual information about clouds is provided on the last two pages.-Sheilah Kosco, Rapides Parish Library, Alexandria, LA Copyright 2000 Cahners Business Information.
