About the Author, Sally Kus

Sally Kus is the head volleyball coach at the University of Buffalo. Before taking over the reigns at UB in December of 2001, Kus enjoyed four successful seasons at Daemen College (New York), where she was named NAIA Conference Coach of the Year twice.

A veteran coach at the collegiate, high school, and club levels, Kus is best known for her remarkable 23-year coaching tenure at Sweet Home High School in Amherst, New York, where she compiled a record of 794-29 with teams that Volleyball Magazine called “the best prep program ever in the history of the sport.” Kus coached her teams to a National Federation of State High Schools record of 292 consecutive wins (1978-1987), six consecutive state titles (1990-1995), and a number one national ranking by USA Today (1991). Kus was named the National Women's Sports Foundation Coach of the Year in 1983 and National Federation Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1987, and she was inducted into the National Volleyball Hall of Fame in 1996.

Kus is a 1970 graduate of the University of Akron and a graduate of the University of Buffalo, having earned a master's degree in health and physical education in 1974. She coached the girls' scholastic team at the Empire State Games from 1978 to 1991, where her teams won 10 gold and 3 silver medals. She is the founder and coordinator of the nationally renowned Cheetah Junior Olympic Development Program and is a USA Volleyball National Coaching Accreditation Program clinician (CADRE).

When not coaching, teaching, or speaking at clinics about volleyball, Kus enjoys traveling, water sports, and shopping. She and her husband, Larry, live near Buffalo, New York.
