Synopsis

In this edition of his undergraduate text, Anderson (Carnegie Mellon U.) updates information to keep track with advances in the past five years, particularly those in cognitive neuroscience. His topics include the growth of the science of cognition, perception, attention and performance, and perception-based knowledge representations. He examines encoding, storage, retention, and retrieval in human memory, and abstraction of information into memory. He analyzes problem solving, expertise, reasoning and decision making, individual differences in cognition, and language structure and comprehension. In each case he supplies remarks and suggested readings. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
