Gr 5 Up-- Clearly written and well organized, this useful book covers how to define collectibles, where to find them, what to look for, and how to sell them, and has a directory of popular items. Some objects are sophisticated and expensive, while others are inexpensive, currently popular items that are likely to rise in value. There is an interesting section on auctions: what to expect, what to take along, and how to get good values. Several brief glossaries of terms are appropriately located throughout the text. Directories of selected auction houses, flea markets, and collecting clubs are also included. The average quality black-and-white photographs are disappointing, as relatively few are of the actual collectibles. However, considering the broad scope of the subject, this is an adequate introduction to a hobby that may bring history alive for students. --Marilyn Long Graham, JacJacksonville Public Libraries, FLBook Details
