Children's Literature
This attractive book is chock-full of glorious color photographs and facts about Colombia, but leaves the reader wanting more. Perhaps that is a good thing, as students can perform further research on this South American country on their own. It whets the appetite just enough to be curious about digging further into Colombian history and culture, yet satisfies with basic facts and an overview of the country famous for it's coffee beans. Colombian people and culture are as diverse as its geography. Poverty is prevalent as well as wealth of city dwellers. The land is comprised of sandy beaches, snow capped mountains, flat grasslands and part of the Amazon rain forest. Colombia boasts the most plants and animals in the world for a country of its size! Scattered throughout are postage-stamp-shaped "bullets" highlighting a particular featureβsuch as the cotton-top tamarin, sculpture or the picking of coffee beans. Following the text are one page of country facts, trivia, a helpful glossary and index, all very useful. 2003, The Child's World,β Elizabeth Young
