This beautifully illustrated book has only thirty-two pages; however it contains much more information than this would indicate. The text fits perfectly with the pictures with no unnecessary words. There is a map of Asia where peacocks live. A beautiful picture explains the parts of a peacock's body. The glossary explains words that are in italics. There is a list of animal books printed on the back cover that readers may wish to consult. One page suggests further reading and web sites. There is an index to guide the reader as to where parts of the book are located. All this is accomplished in thirty-two pages in this hard-back book. It will make a good school library book to enable all children to learn about this fabulous bird. Peacocks are beautiful birds. Their likeness is captured and needed information explained. The page showing the peacock lifting his train feathers captures this phenomenon of nature. Pictures explain that peacocks are male and peahens are female. Peacocks cannot fly as fast as peahens because train feathers slow them down. Peafowl can live in extreme temperatures, very hot and very cold. Nesting, eating habits, and roosting are depicted and explained.
