Children's Literature - Stephanie R. Pearmain

Commotion in the Ocean is a board book of sea related poems. The subjects range from turtles to jellyfish to whales (with barnacles!) and penguins. It includes walruses and polar bears as well as a poem about the fish in the deepest parts of the ocean. The poems are fun though a bit simple. It was nice that there was sea life from the tropics to the icebergs. I might have liked them to have had a few more fun facts. The illustrations are bright and entertaining. Children who have watched Nemo will recognize some of the fish that dwell in the deep dark parts of the ocean. The colors are bold and engaging which adds a lot to the content of the book. Children will be drawn back to the bright ocean scenes full of underwater creatures. Overall a fun read for young children. Reviewer: Stephanie R. Pearmain
