Gr 6-12-- A brief look at 14 careers in the human services field that includes positions in law enforcement, government, education, public services, and the armed services. Short chapters give educational requirements, training and salary, job outlook, names and addresses of organizations to contact for further information, and several first-hand narratives by workers discussing each career. A chapter on job hunting tips includes resume writing. Full-color photographs scattered throughout show a diverse ethnic representation of both sexes performing in all areas. Schulz provides a clear, readable introduction to these occupations. The Occupational Outlook Handbook offers more information about a much wider range of careers but is more intimidating with its small print and triple column pages.
