The Areas section of the International Library of Essays in Law and Legal Theory takes in the main branches of law with an emphasis on essays which present analytical and theoretical insights of broad application. The present volume contains ten essays organized in four sections: the birth of the company; conceptions of the company; corporate law and the role of the state; and the end of corporate life. The earliest essay is Thomas H. Jackson's "Bankruptcy, Non- Bankruptcy Entitlements, and the Creditors' Bargain" (1982), and the most recent are Neil Fligstein and Peter Brantley's "Bank Control, Owner Control, or Organizational Dynamics: Who Controls the Large Modern Corporation?" and Lucian Arye Bebchuk's "Federalism and the Corporation: The Desirable Limits on State Competition in Corporate Law" (both, 1992).
