The author's intentions are to introduce to new dental assistants and to reinforce to other dental assistants a working knowledge of basic chairside and office procedures. The book is systematically organized. The purpose is to allow the student dental assistant in training and the experienced practicing dental assistant to master one skill, then build upon this knowledge as they move onto the next lesson. This is a worthy objective, and I think this book can benefit many. The goal is to achieve a score of 80 percent or better on the self-evaluation; I achieved a score of over 90 percent. This book is written for the student assistant and the practicing dental assistant who wishes to review the subject matter and brush up on skills. The material in this book is good and accurate. I believe the author to be credible because she is a certified dental assistant and a registered dental hygienist. The entire book has black-and-white illustrations; the quality of the illustrations is sufficient. The references are current and pertinent to the text. The table of contents is informative. The cover of the book is attractive, and the overall appearance of the book is good. The organization of the competency evaluation at the end of each lesson is great. This author is trained and informative in her field. I believe this book will sell at most bookstores and should be in public libraries and dental assisting training programs. This is a good book, with a simple, step-by-step format.
