Since everyone is eventually subjected to medical tests, there is a need for a relatively nontechnical reference to decipher that cryptic list, issued by the doctor, of needed tests. This encyclopedic book covers a wide variety of tests, among them urinalyses, spinal taps, x-rays, ECG, biopsies, and a huge variety of blood tests. For each there is a synopsis of purpose, precautions, pre-test instructions, and an interpretation of results. Although this book is not a substitute for information from a caring, knowledgable doctor, it is a gold mine for the patient wanting more detail, precautionary advice, or reassurance. Essential.
