Synopsis
Selected papers from the Eighth INFORMS Computing Society Conference, held in January 2003 in Arizona, represent the diversity of research in operations research, the management sciences, computer science, and artificial intelligence. The first two papers present philosophical perspectives on computation, covering a variety of traditional and newer methods for modeling, solving, and explaining mathematical models. Later selections examine machine learning and computational heuristics and address issues in performance testing of solution algorithms. Final papers demonstrate applications in e-commerce, music, and workflow. There is no index. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
