School Library Journal
Gr 5-8These series entries focus on the history of two modern inventions and their uses. Double-page biographies of individuals involved in the discovery and advancement of lasers and computers are scattered throughout and are a great asset. "Amazing Facts" boxes are filled with information that may lead readers to further explorations. The black-and-white and full-color photographs and drawings enhance the texts and will attract interest. However, there are a few problems with the presentations. The pages are crowded and it is hard to find a main idea quickly or match a picture with its description. The brief glossary helps with some of the technical language; unfortunately, the words are not highlighted in the text and no definitions are presented in context.Tracey Kroll, Brookland Middle School, Richmond, VABook Details
