Overview

Computing in Construction gives an indication of where future technology may become most productive through an analysis, illustrated by graphs, of recent patterns of growth. Architects, engineers, contractors and surveyors, and those supplying IT systems to them, will find the data on current applications of great interest, and the indications of succeeding technologies are essential for anyone planning the future of a business.

New developments in the Internet, virtual reality, CAD, databases and integration, are included with the factors which will affect their growth.

Rob Howard established the Construction Industry Computing Association in 1973 to help those in all parts of construction exploit the first computer systems. He has carried out many research and consultancy projects, surveyed the use of IT and CAD and managed multimedia and Internet projects. He has recently been appointed a visiting professor of IT in the Planning Department of the Technical University of Denmark.
