Synopsis

Jan loves visiting his grandparents' home. He always learns new things, whether it is helping his grandfather on the farm, or helping his grandmother bake a cake. This story ...

Criticas

PreS-Gr 2-Jan, a preschooler, is excited to be spending the day at his grandparents' farm. He begins the day with his grandfather trimming bushes, hoeing, getting a ride in a wheelbarrow, discovering a worm, feeding chickens, gathering eggs, and picking cherries. The two of them return to the house with an overflowing basket and some cherries hanging from their ears. Grandmother warmly receives the fruit and a pie-making adventure begins. While the pie is baking and grandfather sleeps in his chair, Jan sits on his grandmother's lap and listens to songs from "when she was young." After the three enjoy eating the pie together, the grandparents give Jan a bag of cherries to take home. This is a perfect book for remembering special occasions and is sure to touch a warm place in readers' hearts. Linda Shubert, Alief Ind. School District, Houston, TX Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
